About the Bids Tab

Open the Bids tab by clicking on it.

On the Bids tab you will find links to all the pages you will need to manage your bids and folders.

Importing your bids from eBay

When you first access your Buying Manager account, all of the watches and bids currently associated with your eBay User ID will display. Later, if you have created new bids directly on eBay or bid on an item directly on eBay, these new items will be listed in the import manager.

The Watched Items appear above the Bid Items, and below both lists are two buttons: Import Items and Refresh List.

You can use the Refresh List button at any time to update the list from eBay bids that have not yet been imported to Buying Manager.

Select the bid items by clicking on the checkbox next to the Item #.

For each bid, select an existing folder from the Folder drop down list.

You can also add a comment to each bid by typing it into the Comments box.

Then click on the Import Items button to import the bids into your Buying Manager account.

Creating and Placing Bids one at a time

There are three ways to place a single bid through Buying Manager:

  2. Click on the Bid on Item link on the item in Search Results
  3. Use the Bid Now link from the browser toolbar

Bidding on an eBay Item

Whatever way you use to open the Bid on an eBay item window the same simple steps apply.  If you got to the window through the link on a particular item, the item# and current price will already be filled in. If the Item # is not already filled in, you can copy and paste it into the text box from another source.

Type the monetary value of your bid in the box labeled Max Offer. Do not include a currency sign (i.e., $). If the auction is for multiple items, enter the number of items you are bidding on in the text box labeled Quantity. The default quantity of one will already appear in the text box.

Select a previously created folder from the drop down box.  If you do not specify a folder the bid will automatically be placed into your My Bids folder.

Enter notes in the Comments  box. (comments are optional)

note: If you do not want to use comments on your bids, you can turn off this option in My Account – Default Preferences

When you click on the Place This Bid button you will be asked again if you really want to place the bid. At this point you should review the information you entered. If you find any mistakes or want to make changes press the Edit This Bid Button.  When you are ready to place your bid on eBay, click Yes, Place This Bid. Your bid will be place on eBay and saved to your Buying Manager bids.  You should see a message confirming that your bid has been placed.

Click on the Close this Window link to close the Bid on an eBay item window.  If you close the window before your bid is placed, it will be canceled.

Once the bid is placed you cannot cancel it from Buying Manager unless you placed it in a Bid Group or Budget Group.  This is because bids in Bid or Budget Groups are not immediately placed on eBay.

Adding Bids from a Search

You can always bid on an item included in search results.

From a Search Results page you can either:

  1. Click on the Bid on Item button in the Action column on the right to place a bid for a single item
  2. Click on the checkbox for all of the items in the search you want to bid on, then click on the Bid button in the Item Action Bar.

Both of these will bring up a form to edit the Max Bid value and select a folder to place the bid in.

When you click on the Make Bid or the Make Bids button the bid(s) on the item(s) will be placed.

Placing multiple bids using Add Bulk Bids

Click on the Add Bulk Bids link on the Bids main tab to bring up the Add Multiple Bids workspace

The Add Multiple Bids workspace allows you to enter many item #’s into a simple plain text box

Each item to be bid on is put on a separate line.  Each line must contain a valid eBay Item Number and your maximum bid amount separated by a comma and a space (Item#, bid). Do not include a currency sign (i.e. $) as this will cause an error.

Optionally, you can include a value for the Quantity after the bid amount. By default, a Quantity of 1 will be appended to the bid so a bid will be placed for 1 item unless you supply a new value.

If you wish to add a comment to the bid, you must supply a value for quantity, so that the format:
        Item# <COMMA><SPACE> bid# <COMMA><SPACE> quantity# <COMMA><SPACE> comment text
is not violated.

Click on the Add Bids button to place the bids in the text box.

Viewing your Bids

Click on the My Bids link on the Bids tab.

The list of bids displayed depends on selections made in the Show Bids toolbar.

You can change the folder displayed by selecting another folder in the In Folder drop down list. The folder that displays by default is the one you selected in Preferences on the My Account tab.

The view setting allows you to see a subset of the bids in that folder based on status or date.  You can change the View displayed by selecting from the choices: All, Deleted, Won, Lost, Ended, Today or Active. The bids view that is displayed by default is the one you selected in Preferences on the My Account tab.

The bids in the All, Won, Lost, Ended views remain in the system indefinitely.  You can un-clutter these views by moving bids to the Deleted folder.

Use the Items Per Page drop down list to change the number of items on a page (and therefore the scale of the thumbnail images and text). The default setting is the one you chose in Preferences on the My Account tab.

Sorting the list of your bids

You can sort the list of bids displayed on any of the column headings at the top of the list: Title, Seller, Bids, Max Bid, Currently, Shipping, Ends, Folder or Status.

Click on the column label in the row of column headings to sort your list based on those values.

A caret mark will appear next to the heading on which the sort is based. If the caret points up, the highest values appear at the top. If it points down, the highest values will appear at the bottom.

You can switch the direction of the list by clicking on the column heading again.

What you see in your list of bids Based on the eBay auction Item # and the specifics you entered for your bid, the following information is displayed for each bid in the list:

  • Thumbnail picture
  • Item title
  • Item number
  • Seller ID and feedback count
  • Quantity Available
  • Number of bids placed on the item in eBay
  • your Maximum Bid amount
  • Current Price (including the auction currency type)
  • Shipping and Handling charge (roughly calculated based on information on auction)
  • time left in the auction
  • date and time the auction Ends
  • Folder that the bid is in
  • Status of your bid (click here for status definitions)

Selecting bids for an action

To select all of the bids in the list for a toolbar action, click on the  check box on the left side of the column header. To select one or more bids individually for an action, click the checkbox  to the left of the bid (next to the thumbnail image for the item).

Action Bar tools

The Items Action Bar appears at the bottom of the list. The buttons here will perform actions on one or more items in the list that you have selected with a checkbox.

You can modify the Comments by typing in the text box. Changes to Comments can be updated at any time.

At any time, you can change the Folder the bid is stored in by selecting a previously created folder from the drop down list. Or you can create a new folder using the Create Folder link under the drop down box. Clicking the Create Folder link will take you to the Add a Folder work page.

When you have made changes to a specific bid, click on the Update button at the bottom of the page and you will be returned to the list of bids in your default view. If you click Update after making changes to only one of a number of bids selected for editing, you will be returned to a list containing the bids yet to be edited.  If you click Cancel, all the changes made to any of the bids on the edit page are ignored, bids are saved in their previously existing state and you are returned to the list of bids as it was before you clicked on Edit.
