What is a token and why do I need one?

To protect your eBay account, instead of sharing your username and password with third party sites, like Buying Manager, eEbay only shares an identifying ‘token’ which we store in our database. This token is a unique identifier assigned and controlled by eBay that allows Buying Manager to perform operations on your behalf. The eBay token essentially makes the Buying Manager session behave as if it were you signed into your eBay account.  Any time you want to perform an operation using Buying Manager that requires contact with the eBay system, such as searching or bidding, you need to have a token.

Buying Manager uses the token to:

  • Place bids on eBay
  • Perform searches
  • Import your eBay account settings
  • Lookup eBay item information

When do I need to generate an eBay token?

When you create your Buying Manager account, a token needs to be generated so that we can import your eBay account information. This is part of the Sign Up process.

You can generate a token for your Buying Manager account at any time from the eBay Token link on the My Account tab. This token will stay with your Buying Manager account for up to eighteen months.

There are a number of ways that the eBay token can become invalidated before it expires. When this happens you will need to regenerate a new token. You will find out that the existing token is invalidated when trying to perform an operation with Buying Manager that requires contact with the eBay system. An error message will be displayed and you will be prompted to generate a token for the pending action.

How do I bid on items in a search?

From an online search results page you can either:

  1. Click on the Bid on Item link in the Action column on the right to enter a bid for a single item
  2. Click on the checkbox for all of the items in the search you want to bid on, then click on the Bid button in the Item Action Bar.

Both of these will bring up a form to edit the Max Bid value and select a folder to place the bid in.
It is especially important to select the correct folder from the folder drop down list if you want to place the item in one of your bid or budget groups.

When you click on the Make Bid or the Make Bids button the bid(s) on the item(s) will be placed.

From the Search Results in an autosearch email, you can click on the item Title link. This will take you into the eBay site. Then click on the Bid Now link you've placed in your browser tool bar to place the bid. For more info about Bid Now click here.

Or, copy the Item # from the emailed list into the Bid on an eBay Item window from the My Bids view.
